In 1979, after completing his studies in Belgium, Lix came to Canada and was offered the position of Central and South American Liason Officer with the World Council of Indigenous Peoples Secretariat at the University of Lethbridge. This work experience shaped his views regarding economics, politics, culture and religion.
Lix participated in the steering committee that organized the first World Conference on Indigenous Peoples’ Education that took place in Vancouver in 1987. Following this he returned to school, and graduated from UBC with a diploma in Adult Education and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration.
Since 1991, his work experience has been in the field of education of aboriginal peoples, as an administrator, registrar, dean and teacher. Through his work with Indigenous peoples he realized that he needed to learn more about his culture, so returned to the traditional teachings of his people. After years of learning and training with Maya spiritual Elders he was initiated as a Day Keeper in 2001.
Members are welcome to join our speaker for dinner at the White Spot @ 5 pm meeting day.
